WORK to build a cycling route in Denbigh will get underway this week.

Denbighshire County Council’s plan for the new route from Crud y Castell to Towsend will improve residents’ access to Denbigh High School, Lower Park and Vale Street. It is also aimed at enabling more pupils to walk and cycle to school.

The work, funded by the Welsh Government’s Active Travel Fund grant, is being carried out by Clawddnewydd contractor E Jones and Son.

Cllr Brian Jones, DCC’s cabinet member for highways, environment and sustainable travel, said the path follows “big demand” in Denbigh for cycling routes in and around the town.

“This is the first phase of ambitious plans that we have to introduce a network of active travel routes in Denbigh, linking residential areas with key amenities in the town,” said Cllr Jones.

“There has been a big demand in the local community for this development and we are responding to that demand by kick starting the works at Denbigh.”

Cllr Jones said that traffic management measures will be in place on Ystrad Road while the works are being carried out and that there may be slight disruption caused to motorists.
