A WARNING of further flooding has been issued in advance of Storm Dennis sweeping in.

Donna Littlechild, for Natural Resources Wales, said: “We’re warning people of the risk of further flooding as Storm Dennis is expected to reach Wales this weekend.

“With many communities still recovering from the impact of Storm Ciara and with many river levels still very high, our teams are busy checking flood defences and gauging equipment and clearing blockages in a bid to reduce the impact on people and properties.

“We expect the worst of the rain on Saturday afternoon and overnight into Sunday, which could see flood alerts and warnings issued.

“Current information suggests that lesser amounts of rain are to be expected over North Wales than occurred during Ciara, but greater amounts of rain are likely elsewhere, especially over parts of the Beacons and South Wales and in the Gwent valleys.

“There is still some uncertainty about the level of impact from Storm Dennis, but our forecasters are working around the clock to assess the situation and issue alerts and warnings where appropriate.

“You can find out the latest updates by checking the NRW website www.naturalresources.wales where the latest flood alerts and warnings are updated every 15 minutes.”
