A POPULAR school gardening competition is calling for nominations.
The RHS School Gardeners of the Year 2020 will award pupils, teachers and afterschool clubs that have made a major difference to their school.
The categories include young school gardener, which awards a child aged five to 16 who has demonstrated their passion for plants; the school gardening champion of the year, for a teacher or volunteer who has inspired pupils to get involved in gardening; and the school gardening team of the year, for a gardening club that has helped to transform their school’s outdoor area.
Prizes include a set of gardening tools, National Garden gift vouchers and a visit from TV gardener Frances Tophill.
The RHS also offers guidance for schools on how to plan a school gardening project, grow plants and use tools safely, develop practical skills and understand environmental issues, and harvest produce.
