A 29-year-old man jailed for two years for sexually assaulting a woman while she was asleep on a sofa at a friend’s house has previous convictions for stalking and “flashing,” a court was told on Friday.

Lee Bailie of Maes Stanley, Bodelwyddan, had been found guilty by a jury last month of assaulting the young mother three days before Christmas 2018.

In December 2017 he’d been jailed for 18 weeks for stalking another woman and earlier that year had exposed himself to a woman on a train.

Today he was sent to prison for two years and an indefinite restraining order was made banning any contact with his latest victim. In addition he must sign the sex offenders’ register for ten years.

Judge Huw Rees said the latest offence had happened when he was still on prison licence,  “while you were under the influence of both alcohol and drugs.”

Simon Killeen, defending, said the case had a salutary effect on Bailie. He was a man with a good work ethic and there was another side to his character.

The victim today read a long and angry impact statement, speaking from behind a screen at Caernarfon crown court so she would not be visible to Bailie. She said the assault gave her nightmares and she would wake up screaming.

”I fell asleep on a friend’s sofa to wake horrified as to what had happened during my sleep – I have so much anger,” she declared. ENDS
