A SEASONAL gesture of goodwill from Towyn and Kinmel Bay is the gift that keeps giving.

In the run up to Christmas, more than half of the area's town councillors have maintained the tradition of forgoing their yearly allowances to fund a variety of generous gestures to the town's food bank, schools and residential homes as well as Glan Clwyd Hospital.

While the bulk of donations were made in time for Christmas, Towyn and Kinmel Bay mayor cllr Morris Jones recently visited the oncology ward at Glan Clwyd Hospital, where he presented a cheque for £1,000 to ward sister Julie Roberts.

Cllr Jones said: "The visit to Glan Clwyd, the main reason was that one of our councillors has been in Glan Clwyd with cancer, so we decided to give the £1,000 to the ward as a thank you to all of the staff for what they've done for her, and all the good work throughout the year every year."

The combined efforts of the councillors a raised more than £3,700 before Christmas and in 2020, the group have used the remaining funds to also throw a party at Jake's in Towyn, which was attended by 120 residents.

On Monday, February 24 cllr Jones - who is a governor at Ysgol Maes Owen - also used £450 of the remaining funds to purchase Easter eggs for the school and Ysgol Y Foryd.
