RUNNERS put their best foot forward despite the rain during the Ruthin 5K & 10K Race on Sunday.

More than 400 people gathered at Ruthin Leisure Centre for the annual races which follow a scenic route beside the Clwydian Range.

The races aim to provide a challenge for novice and serious runners, with the 10km route climbing a total of 99 metres.

Headphones were banned for the first time, according to new Welsh Athletics rules.

The 10K men’s race was won by Scott Nixon from Ellesmere Port Running Club with a time of 33 minutes 43 seconds, followed by Shaun Hughes from Denbigh Harriers with 35.05 and Ross Welsh from Meirionnydd Running Club with 35.44.

The 10K women’s medallists were Andrew Claire from Spectrum Striders with 40.25; Jane Doughton from Buckley Running Club with 43.11; and independent runner Claire Wyn-Jones with a time of 44.05.

In the 5K men’s race the top three included Ryan Davis from Wrexham Running Club with 15.52, Canyon Wilson from Prestatyn Running Club with 17.12, and Richard Eccles from North Wales Road Runners with 18.38.

The best finidhers of the 5K women’s race were Sioned Cordiner and Ella Davis from Wrexham Running Club with a time of 20.18 and 22.28 respectively, followed by independent runner Danielle Coulthwaite.
