A STREAM bridge linking two villages has been shut after being damaged during Storm Dennis.

The Drefechan Bridge on the Pentre Llanrhaeadr to Llanynys road was closed after the stream rose along with river levels during the heavy rainfall over February 13-19.

The closure followed an inspection by Denbighshire County Council on Thursday, February 20 with diversions put in place at Rhewl.

A council spokesperson said the extent of the damage is being assessed and the bridge will be reopened as soon as possible.

Cllr Brian Jones, Denbighshire County Council’s cabinet member for waste, transport and the environment, said: “To ensure the safety of residents we have closed the bridge with immediate effect.

“We would like to thank members of the public for their understanding as we assess the full extent of the damage and we will ensure residents are kept informed,” Cllr Jones added.
