Corwen Day Nursery

FLOODS did not stop a fun filled February half-term at Corwen Day Nursery.

The nursery has a regular calendar of events for children aged from three to 12 every holiday and the last February half-term was no exception. This year, an average of 16 children took part in lots of activities, ranging from forest school experiences to a junk modelling competition.

The children asked if they could learn about cooking and on one of the days, they enjoyed making their lunch of minced beef and vegetable pie. Andy Green, a children’s entertainer, returned for one of the mornings because he never fails to make the children laugh and surprise them with his magic tricks.

The children are fortunate to have regular forest school experiences and the rain didn’t dampen the mood on a wet and windy Thursday, as one of the children said: “I have had a great day. Lighting a fire so that we could have S’mores was so much fun.”

Another added: “I loved making the shelter so we could keep dry. The delicious hot chocolate that Carmen made for us when we returned to nursery warmed me up.”

Carmen Roberts Davenport, owner of Corwen Day Nursery, commented: “We are so lucky to have a forest on our doorstep and spending time in the outdoors is great for children’s well being and there are wealth of learning opportunities that can be had from a forest school experience.

"Forest school days are by far the most popular amongst the children and the staff and it was fantastic to see the children having so much fun despite the miserable weather.”

Hanna Davies, who runs the holiday club, added: “We are fortunate that we have such a large outdoor area to partake in forest school experiences if the weather is too bad to go up to the forest.

"Our home-made tee pee is fantastic for circle time and on the Monday because the children were quite young, we decided not to go to the forest but take advantage of the outdoor area at nursery.”

The Calendar of events has already been drawn up by the children for the Easter holidays and includes four forest school days, along with a trip on the train to Llangollen and a fun day which will include a bouncy castle.

The traditional Easter hat competition and Easter egg Hunt will of course be included in the activity-packed fortnight.
