AFTER a month of cancelled matches due to waterlogged pitches, Dinbych U-13s finally had an outing on Sunday at Colwyn Bay.

The Colwyn Bay pitch was still quite boggy in places, but the game went ahead after a lengthy delay to remark the pitch.

Dinbych had a full team, plus replacements, but they had to loan some players to Colwyn Bay who had a depleted squad.

A thrilling contest ensued with Denbigh scoring early after a jinking run down the right wing by Aron Roberts.

This was followed by two more tries in the first half by number eight Dion Jones and scrum half Ollie Baines, both converted by Jac Moore.

Colwyn Bay stepped up their game towards the end of the first half, boosted by strong performances from Dinbych players Nathan Evans and Jack Thomas.

The hosts scored two tries to leave the game delicately poised at 19-10 to Dinbych at half time, with Colwyn Bay in the ascendency.

Dinbych started the second half in much the same way as the first, with Dion Jones again powering through to touch down after great forward link up play between him and Hari Liversidge.

By now, the ball was changing hands really fluidly and powerful runs from the likes of Dean Owen, Will Luhde-Thompson, Hari Liversidge and Charlie Williams, along with some really polished set pieces at the line out, began to pay dividends.

Dion Jones' third try was probably his best.

He latched on to a pass with a sudden burst of acceleration which took out several Colwyn Bay defenders for him to touch down under the posts.

Colwyn Bay did not give up, spurred on by really spirited performances from Dinbych players Joe Ashton and Evan Thomas, and some strong counter-rucking.

They again threatened to get a foothold back into the game, scoring three more tries.

In the end, though, Dinbych were just too strong in attack and a further two tries from Dion Jones, plus one conversion by Jac Moore, sealed a 41-27 victory.
