A SECONDARY school has supplied all of its pupils with purple pens in a bid to stop the spread of coronavirus.

Denbigh High School said it is “doing everything we can” to limit the spread of the virus following a number of confirmed cases in North Wales and the first death, a 68-year-old man at Wrexham Maelor Hospital on Monday, March 16.

Its measures have included reducing the number of visitors to the school, including an upcoming parents’ evening, and additional hand sanitiser at communal printers and in the canteen, where it has fingerprinting points for pupils’ school meal accounts.

A statement by Denbigh High School said: “In light of the continued spread of COVID-19, please be reassured that we are doing everything we can in school to mitigate transmission of coronavirus.

“Additional hand sanitising facilities have been provided by communal printers and in the canteen, particularly by the shared fingerprint points.

“We have reduced the number of visitors coming into school, for example peripatetic music lessons will stop from this Friday, and we will continue to monitor this situation as time progresses.

“We have postponed Year 9 parents' evening to avoid large gatherings of people. In addition, we are in the process of supplying all students with their own purple pen to prevent this piece of equipment being shared between classes.

“We would be grateful if you could ensure that your child has all other necessary items of stationery with them to avoid sharing pens, rulers etc. [sic]”

The statement added that the school will keep parents and carers up-to-date via social media.
