WILLOW-weaving workshops were held in Llangollen and Corwen.

The Clwydian Range and Dee Valley AONB organised the workshops to teach how to make Catalonian tension trays.

It followed the Catalan technique for making the basket bases and trays used for drying fruit. Willow rods are woven over a frame and ribs to create a firm tray, or trivet.

Beginners to the craft were led by Mandy Coates, willow-weaving expert and member of the Basketmakers Association.

The workshops are part of its collaboration with the Denbighshire Countryside Service’s Nature for Health project, an 18-month pilot scheme with the aim of improving communities mental and physical health through improved access to nature in north and south Denbighshire.

The project is a collaboration between Gwasanaeth Cefn Gwlad Sir Ddinbych - Denbighshire Countryside Service and Tai Sir Ddinbych - Denbighshire Housing.

It has included activities such as outdoor walks, day trips, practical conservation sessions, arts and crafts and wildlife surveys.
