A STREAM bridge linking two Denbighshire villages has re-opened after damage caused by two storms earlier this year.

Following storms Ciara and Dennis in February, Drefechan Bridge on the Pentre Llanrhaeadr to Llanynys road was closed after it had been severely weakened by the flow of the river.

The bridge was closed on Thursday, February 20, following an inspection by Denbighshire County Council with diversions put in place at Rhewl.

Cllr Brian Jones, the Council’s lead member for waste, transport and the environment, said: “Despite ongoing bad weather initially, followed by the restrictions as a consequence of the coronavirus outbreak, the Council and our contractor have now completed the required works to strengthen the bridge and resurface the carriageway.

“I’m pleased work has been completed on this bridge and I would like to thank residents in the area for their understanding while this was carried out.”

Further work to ensure the longevity of the structure will be required in the summer.
