A CHARITY that supports people living in the Builth Wells area says it has only enough money to last until the end of June.

Builth Wells Community Support (BWCS) says almost half of its income comes from the charity’s shop in the town, however the lockdown imposed by the Government to reduce the spread of the coronavirus has left the charity in a difficult position.

Pam Hibbert OBE, chair of trustees, said: “As part of lockdown, Our charity shop is closed until Government advice changes. Forty-four per cent of the income needed to run BWCS comes from the shop, and the loss of this will have a long term effect.

“Our staff are to be commended for working with such commitment when they do not know if we will have sufficient funds to keep going and recover from these losses. They and the Board of Trustees are working hard to identify other sources of funding but currently there is only enough money to take us to the end of June this year.

“I wanted to take this opportunity to let you know what BWCS is doing at these most difficult of times and thank everyone for their continued support.

“All the usual BWCS services have, of course, been suspended but our two staff members are continuing to work hard to support local people.

“In conjunction with the town council we now also have a mobile phone number 07376089217 as well as our office number 01982 553004 for anyone who has to self -isolate or cannot get out for other reasons.

“Our wonderful volunteers will deliver essential food and medical supplies and can provide a friendly and reassuring ear to listen to your concerns.

“We will do everything we can to try and safeguard the future of BWCS and be in a position to resume other services when this crisis subsides.”

A fundraising page has been launched for donations to help the charity’s work in the Builth Wells area which includes Llanwrtyd Wells, Llangammarch Wells, Garth, Cilmeri, Erwood, Aberedw and Llanelwedd.

Ms Hibbert added: “Donations are gratefully received at all times but especially now.”
