LONG queues are forming this morning as Southampton's recycling centre reopens for business.

Dozens of residents are waiting patiently in their cars in a 70 long queue which snakes its way towards the Millbrook rubbish tip and is currently between an hour and two hours long.

Road signs on the approach to the Household Waste & Recycling Centre direct drivers to a different entrance to the site and the orderly queue is being overseen by a number of council workers.

One Millbrook resident, who had piled his Skoda high, said he was happy to wait get rid of the waste he had built up during a garden makeover in the last few weeks.

Civic chiefs have confirmed there is a reduced service at the site and have asked residents to wait to access the site unless essential.

A statement says: "We already have quite a queue forming and with reduced capacity it will take some time for the vehicles already waiting to get access.

"Please consider waiting a little longer for your visit."
