STUDENTS created landscape paintings to mark Earth Day.

Pupils from Myddelton College in Denbigh, who are being taught online, took part in the annual event as part of their studies; Year Six have a topic of 'A Sustainable World' and Year Five have been set 'Wild Wales'.

Year six read Window, by Jeannie Baker, before discussing the impacts of deforestation.

Katie Gresley-Jones, head of Myddelton Preparatory School, said: "We located the rainforests around the world, wrote descriptive pieces about the nature in the rainforests, studied the artist David Hockney and created landscapes in his style.

"We used our online library of books to research the rainforests and endangered animals, created fact files about different endangered animals, wrote poems about the nature in our gardens and even had a virtual field trip to Chester Zoo."

Year Five read The Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Grahame.

"They also learnt about biodiversity and gave articulate online presentations to their peers about animal life cycles," Miss Gresley-Jones said.

"They located Wales’ national parks and created art work inspired by local artist Rosie Farey.

"Learning is carrying on as close to normal as it possibly can here.

"Pupils are receiving a full day of online lessons with their usual teachers," Miss Gresley-Jones added.

The pupils are looking forward to celebrating World Oceans Day on June 8.
