Prime Minister Boris Johnson has congratulated Hay Festival organisers for making the famous literary event available online during the coronavirus pandemic.
Speaking during today's Prime Minister's Questions, Mr Johnson said he was sorry that the "wonderful" festival had to be postponed but praised organisers for unveiling a digital programme of events.
In response to Brecon and Radnorshire MP Fay Jones' question, he said: "I congratulate them on their typical Welsh ingenuity in making it online, turning it into Hay on Wifi, if I may say so, Mr Speaker".
Organisers had previously announced that the festival, which has been held in Hay-on-Wye, Powys, since 1988, would not be taking place as a live event later this month because of the coronavirus pandemic.
A series of free live broadcasts and interactive Q&As have now been scheduled to take place instead of the physical event in Wales.
Speakers at the digital festival will include Benedict Cumberbatch, Hilary Mantel, Helena Bonham Carter and Stephen Fry.
The digital programme of events will begin from Monday, May 18.
