NEARLY 100 new coronavirus cases have been confirmed in North Wales in the last day, Public Health Wales figures show.

In total, there have 98 new cases have been confirmed in North Wales as concerns grow about the rate of new cases in the region.

Conwy has seen by far the highest number of new cases, with 51 having been confirmed by Public Health Wales in the last 24 hours.

Elsewhere, there have been 20 new confirmed cases in Denbighshire, eight in Flintshire, seven on Anglesey and six each in Wrexham and Gwynedd.

It was reported this week that Plaid Cymru's North Wales Assembly Member Llyr Gruffydd described the spike in cases in the region as a matter of "huge concern".

Nationally, 183 new cases of the virus were confirmed, with 18 people who had tested positive for the virus having died in Wales in the last 24 hours.

The total number of suspected coronavirus deaths in Wales now stands at 1,191.
