A DEFENCELESS bird has been shot dead by an air gun in Prestatyn.

The fledgling blackbird was shot in the Seabank Road area.

North Wales Rural Crime received a report of the incident on Wednesday, May 20.

An RSPCA Cymru spokesperson said: “It's so sad to hear reports of a fledgling blackbird shot dead in Prestatyn.

“Sadly, this comes only weeks after reports of three separate gull shootings in the Prestatyn area - incidents the RSPCA continue to investigate.

“These shocking reports highlight the importance of introducing stricter controls over air guns usage, as well as better education and explanation of the law for those purchasing one.

“Birds like blackbirds and gulls are protected under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981.

"Using an air gun or other weapon to kill them like this may constitute an offence, and is something that should be taken very seriously.”
