CONCERNS have been raised about non-local people taking advantage of a recently reopened Flintshire beauty spot.

Wepre Park last week reopened for local people to exercise in after being closed since late March.

And while the front gates are locked, car parking facilities, toilets, the visitor centre, play area and skate park all remain closed, concerns have already been made about non-locals using the park.

One local resident, wishing to remain anonymous, told the Leader: "This weekend cars have lined nearby roads, it's clear it's not just locals using the park.

"With it being well documented that other North Wales beauty spots are closed and heavily patrolled by police, I'm concerned people will instead come to Wepre Park for their days out.

"There was no sign of any police officers, how is this going to be properly policed?"

Wepre Park rangers say that no one, apart from those with disabilities, can drive to the park for exercise, and that social distancing must be observed at all time.

The Rosie pond is open to fishing, but booking has to be made via the Rosie Facebook page.

The resident added: "I think it would be better if the other entrances were closed and the car park was open - there could be a steward attending the main entrance checking people are local."
