A FLINTSHIRE community is holding its first ever scarecrow festival to lift spirits amid lockdown.

The inaugural Treuddyn Scarecrow Festival takes place this weekend, and people can expect to see over 50 funky dressed scarecrows dotted around the village.

It is being organised by local resident Carol Metcalfe who wants to put a smile on the faces of fellow residents amid the current difficulties.

She said: "We've never had anything like this in the village before never so I have organised one this year so that our community's families have got an activity to do during lockdown.

"As well as this, everyone will have some lovely things to spot on their daily walks around the village and I hope it'll put a smile or two on people's faces.

"By Friday the village will have 55 scarecrows dotted about which I think is a fantastic effort for the first time of doing it."

Judging will take place on Saturday where the winners of the competition will be crowned.
