HUNDREDS of volunteers across Delyn have gone 'over and above' to help those in need.

As this week marks Volunteers’ Week, Hannah Blythyn MS gave her thanks to the hundreds of volunteers across Flintshire who have given their time to support some of the most vulnerable residents.

Since the introduction of the coronavirus restrictions, hundreds of people have come forward to offer support with shopping, collecting medicines and even offering a social helpline, to those who have had to shield for their own safety.

Hannah Blythyn, MS for Delyn, said: "It truly has been heart-warming to hear the stories of the hundreds of volunteers across Delyn who have gone over and above to help those in need. Friends, neighbours, and even strangers, volunteers have gone out of their way to ensure that everyone who needs it has support.

"That is why I have decided to use my position as your elected representative, to share stories of Delyn’s Community Champions and have been moved by the response I have received so far."

The Member of the Senedd recently launched her Community Champions campaign, calling on residents to share stories of individuals, businesses and organisations who have gone that extra mile during the pandemic to help others. The MS will use social media to share the positive stories across Delyn and is still keen to receive more stories, so that no one goes without thanks.

Organisations like Flintshire Local Voluntary Council (FLVC) have played a key role in supporting voluntary efforts across Wales, using their knowledge, expertise and established networks to safeguard the most vulnerable. FLVC has seen a significant increase of volunteers offering their time and have been offering online training sessions, as well as virtual networking for different groups to share best practice.

Ann Woods, chief officer of FLVC added: "FLVC staff have been overwhelmed with the response from the local community and are here to help link the many offers of help with the individuals, families and groups in need of support. Volunteers Week is a perfect opportunity to recognise the power of community spirit and our ‘community champions."

With the need for volunteer support continuing in the coming weeks and months, so will the Community Champions campaign and Ms Blythyn continues to encourage residents to share stories with her office on 01352 762102 or at Hannah.Blythyn@sendd.wales.

If constituents would like to offer their services they can contact FLVC on 01352 744000 or info@flvc.org.uk.
