A COUNCIL is losing up to £700,000 a month due to the coronavirus crisis.

Mid Sussex District Council said it was because of increased demand for services and dwindling income.

It has suspended car park charges and said fewer people can afford council tax.

Leader Councillor Jonathan Ash-Edwards said the £1.5 million granted to the district council by the Government was not enough to secure its finances.

“There is no guarantee of further support at this stage,” he said.

The coronavirus Sussex Crisis Fund has been set up to help those affected by the pandemic. The Argus’s charity and American Express have each donated £50,000 to kick-start the appeal. Grants will usually be for up to £5,000. More information is available at www.sussexgiving. org.uk/apply. To donate visit www.totalgiving.co.uk/appeal/sussexcrisisfund
