AN EIGHT-year-old girl and her family have built something magical near St Asaph.

Molly Dawson has created a little ‘fairy town’, which features shops and houses painted on rocks, along the wall at the front of Maes Robert estate in Cefn Meiriadog.

The enchanting space even ‘glows’ at night when lights come on.

Mum Sally, 38, said: “It overlooks St Mary's church and you can see the fields and church behind it. Molly wanted everyone to be able to see it but to keep it close so we could add to it and we could enjoy seeing it ourselves everyday.

“Making a fairy village is something we have been planning for a long time as Molly was fascinated fairies them when she was younger. She would make a fairy house of some sort and we would make tales about objects we found in the woods and on walks, making them fairy items.

“Once she found a rotten leaf which had only the veins left. She imagined it was a fairy wedding veil.

“Lockdown gave us the opportunity and time to do it.”

The fairy town continues to grow as Molly collects and paints more rocks.

The Ysgol Esgob Morgan pupil is also creating ‘happy rocks’; these are hidden during her walks for community members to find when they take their exercise.

Sally, who is married to Chris, 39, added: "Molly had a remote learning task from school - to do something to make her local community smile. She decided to paint rocks with rainbows and happy messages to leave on her walks.

"She enjoyed painting them and leaving them around on our daily walks so much but was a little sad when they disappeared and she didn't see them again.

"We decided to paint little houses on them to remind people this was their home.

"We then thought about making a whole village and this then grew into a town.

"We could them 'happy rocks' as they are meant to make people happy," Sally explained.

"We also found a rock with a natural smiling face on one of our walks. Tommy brought it home to live in our garden as a pet!

"The rocks Molly painted were placed around the village and were dropped off on each walk. We put a post on the Cefn Meiriadog Facebook page asking people to share a photo if they saw one."

Molly and her brother, Tommy, aged six, have been allowed to stay up late to see the lights at the fairy town come on.

"They were very excited," Sally said.

"It felt magical to see the village glow."

Sally added: “Molly and Tommy are very proud of their creation and hope it puts a smile on the face of anyone who see it.

"We have seen lockdown as an adventure. It has been an interesting and challenging time.

"We have loved having more time together as a family and we feel so lucky to live in such a beautiful place. We have missed our friends and family dearly and Molly misses her teacher very much as well."
