A HORSE bedding company proved their product could cope with all kinds of animals when they came to the aid of Chester Zoo during its time of need.

Happy Horse Bedding, based in Llanferres, donated £250 of bedding to the zoo when it launched an appeal last week when it faced not being able to open in the near future due to coronavirus.

The bedding is being enjoyed by the elephants, rhinos and giraffes at the zoo.

The firm's MD Mathew Davies delivered the bales on Tuesday and the next day the zoo announced it would be able to open due to a UK Government u-turn.

Mathew said: We were moved by the plea of Chester Zoo for help during the Covid-19 crisis.

"We’ve donated £250 worth of bales to support them and help keep the animals happy. Apparently the elephants, rhinos and giraffes love shavings to play with!"

"We saw the news and wanted to help. Then on Wednesday they announced the zoo would be able to open and said that we were their lucky charm."

Mentioning the donation when talking about the support of local businesses during a BBC television interview, deputy curator of birds at the zoo Mark Vercoe said: "Their support has been huge and overwhelming."

The bedding bales are made from both wood shavings and sawsand from the family-owned sawmill near the foothills of The Moel Famau Country Park.
