THE latest data on the rate of new coronavirus cases in England reveals how Cheshire West and Chester compares to other local authority areas.

The figures, which were released by Press Association through Public Health England, show the rate of new cases in each area based on tests that have been carried out in laboratories and also in the wider community to provide a more comprehensive overview.

It details the number of cases per 100,000 population, for the week ending Sunday, June 21.

Cheshire West and Chester had a rate of 12.3 new cases, which placed it 39th out of 149 local authority areas, with Leicester unsurprisingly topping the list with 140.2.

Elsewhere in the county, Cheshire East had a rate of 16.0, followed by Warrington (9.1) and Halton (6.2). Wirral had 19.2 cases while Liverpool is recorded as 6.3.
