A MORRISONS staff member at a Flintshire store has tested positive for coronavirus, the company has confirmed.

Despite the employee of Morrisons in Saltney testing positive for the virus, the store remains open - with the company said to have taken "numerous steps" to ensure it remains safe for both members of staff and customers.

But Richard Lloyd, Saltney county councillor, is concerned that the store remains open.

He said: "I had heard rumours and reported it to Flintshire Council, which is hopefully putting the track, trace and protect measures in place.

"It's obviously very concerning and we need clamp down on it as soon as possible so it doesn't lead to a mini outbreak in the town.

"I would have thought Morrisons would have had to close at least temporarily to deep clean and disinfect the store."

Fellow councillor Veronica Gay also raised concerns for the local community following the news.

She said: "It's worrying as we don't know how many people the employee has been in direct contact with.

"Hopefully the track and trace protocol is underway and anyone at risk has been swiftly identified.

"We'll just have to wait and see and hope that there aren't many subsequent cases."

A Morrisons spokesperson said: "One of our colleagues in Saltney has tested positive for Covid-19 and we wish them a speedy recovery.

"Public Health guidelines have been followed and the colleague has been in self isolation.

"We have taken numerous steps to ensure the store remains safe for colleagues and customers, and continue to ensure the highest standards are in place at all times."
