THE REMNANTS of a tropical storm are set to bring torrential rain to North Wales ahead of a return to summer this weekend.

The remnants of Storm Edouard - which has been battering the east coast of the USA - will arrive on Wednesday evening/Thursday, sparking heavy rain and high winds across the region.

Natural Resources Wales is warning that heavy rain forecast over north and west Wales on Tuesday will last until the early hours of Wednesday, which could lead to flooding in some areas.

Further heavy rain will return on Wednesday evening into Thursday in North Wales, but the weather will improve on Friday and is set fair for the weekend.

The Met Office forecast for Wales on Wednesday says: "Rain will ease through the morning, although there will be further outbreaks at times throughout the afternoon and evening.

"Maximum temperature will be 19°C.

"The outlook for Thursday to Saturday will be humid with some heavy outbreaks of rain on Thursday, lingering overnight.

"Drier on Friday and Saturday with the best of the sunny spells on Friday. Light winds throughout."
