POLICE are asking people in Wrexham and Deeside if they can explain why cable ties are being tied to lampposts and fences.
In some cases, string or shoelaces have been used.
North Wales Police's Eastern Community Safety team made the appeal on social media.
It reads: "Several reports of cable ties, string being tied around lamp posts, fence posts etc
"Do you know why? Do you know who is doing this?
"If you see someone doing it please report."
In other parts of the UK, it has been suggested that cable ties or chalk marks on the pavement are signs to criminals that there is a dog or valuable item at the property.
However, some believe they are hoaxes.
Sergeant Matt Subacchi, of Wrexham's Neighbourhood Policing Team, encouraged people with concerns to speak to the police.
He said: "We encourage any reports from members of the public of suspicious activity.
"Wrexham town is a safe place to live and we will continue to work in the community to ensure that is the case."
