ALMOST 298,000 people across the UK have tested positive for coronavirus, health chiefs have said.

The Department of Health and Social Care has confirmed that as of 9am on July 24, a total of 297,914 people have tested positive for the virus.

On July 17, the Secretary of State asked Public Health England (PHE) to urgently review the way daily death statistics are currently reported.

The Department of Health and Social Care stated it was "pausing" the publication of the daily figure while this review takes place.

As of July 24, this data remained unavailable.
