A COMMUNITY council is supporting a Welsh Government move to cut speed limits on local roads.
If the plan gets the green light – speed limits on local roads will drop from 30 miles per hour to 20 and on certain stretches of bypasses and motorways the it will be 30 mile per hour.
This already operates on the section of the Wrexham bypass near the B&Q roundabout- which had proved controversial with drivers claiming the speed limit drops too quickly from the 60mph limit.
Rhosddu Community Council has backed the new proposals, which are being looked at by all community councils.
North Wales Police and Crime Commissioner Arfon Jones has reservations about the proposed reductions.
In a letter to community councils he claims the proposals, if backed it would put further strains on the police who will have to take additional responsibility to check on vehicles.
Wrexham already has a 20 mile-per-hour limit on roads around schools.
