VOLUNTEER rescue workers were called out to help a farmer retrieve two stuck sheep.

The North East Wales Search and Rescue (NEWSAR) team attended the scene, on a cliff above Llangollen, on Sunday.

A spokesman for the team said: "Usually 'stuck' sheep become magically 'unstuck' after a few days when they have eaten all the grass on their little ledge.

"In this case they didn't appear keen to move after a while.

"So we used a well rehearsed system - two team members abseiling in to each side of the ledge, which is followed by some fairly 'energetic' stuffing them into a builders bag.

"It's not pretty, but they are not hurt in the process.

"Then everyone gets lowered to the ground, sheep run off - not a wave of thanks... tsk!

"Farmer was very grateful though. Good bit of rope work practice for us too."
