PUPILS who have left a Wrexham primary school were treated to a celebratory 'Year 6 leavers' event.
The pupils, who have just left Llay Park CP, were presented with leaving certificates and specially made “hoodies” at a celebration festival in a village field.
This event was organised by school parent governor Sarah Jones and several other parents, who thought this would be a nice way for the children to finish their primary schooling, having not been able to do so as a result of the Covid19 lockdown.
Sarah said: “Llay is a strong community and one of the reasons for this is down to the strength of the CP school
“Leaving Park CP is both a daunting and an exciting time for the children, which is normally acknowledged every year in school.
"Unfortunately, this year it wasn`t possible due to the uncertainties of lockdown, which is why we wanted to do something for the Year 6 leavers to remember their time at Llay Park CP, so parents invested in certificates and special hoodies with 2020 and #lockdown printed on them.”
There to present the children with their certificates and hoodies was Mayor of Wrexham Rob Walsh, who is also councillor for Llay and a governor at the school.
He said: “What a great event, and I must thank Sarah and everyone else involved for organising at such short notice. The children loved it.
"It brought back many memories for me as I was in their exact shoes 33 years ago, so it was important that this moment was acknowledged for them. I did say in my speech that I hope that one of them will one day follow in my footsteps and become Mayor of Wrexham.”
