OLYMPIC Games medallist Vicky Thornley spoke of her motivation to help a children's charity ahead of a fundraising Celebrity Cookalong.

Recently the Leader reported how the rower from Wrexham, who took Silver at Rio's 2016 Olympics and is training hard for the postponed Tokyo Olympic Games next year, is to share one of her recipes on the forthcoming online event.

Its mission is to support various charities in need by enabling people to make donations in aid of good causes and enter a raffle for the chance to join their favourite celebrities via video chat for intimate and immersive cookalongs.

Vicky, who will be raising money for the charity KidsOut, will be making a lentil and cauliflower curry on Cookalong.tv from 7.30pm on August 20.

She said: "All charities have been struggling through covid-19.

"I am a patron of KidsOut, which is is a small charity that relies massively on events, which they have missed out on. "It's great to get involved in the cookalong and do something fun to help.

"The recipe is on my website. I love curry generally and this is a vegetarian recipe.

"It's really easy to make as long as you can chop up a few vegetables and have a decent size pan. It's cheap as well.

"It would be great if we can get as many people involved as possible."

Describing her preparations for Tokyo, she added: "We had our team selected for this year and then covid came. "We had to leave the training base and then lockdown happened.

"It was annoying but there are positives to come from it being a year later and that's the way you have to look at it.

"So I have been training at home on the rowing machine and I have a good weights set.

"I broke my elbow two months ago and ended up finishing the season off on the bike in the garage instead.

"People have started getting back onto the water - not me yet because of the elbow but I am hoping to go back in a few weeks. "I have been away from about five months, which is a long time."

KidsOut provides disadvantaged children across the UK with exciting memories to cherish.
