EIGHT new coronavirus cases have been confirmed across North Wales in the last day, the latest data shows.

Public Health Wales figures released on Wednesday show that nearly 40 per cent of Wales' new cases were in the north.

Denbighshire, Gwynedd and Anglesey each recorded two new cases, while Wrexham and Conwy each recorded one new case.

No new cases were confirmed in Flintshire - with its total remaining at 760.

Wrexham remains the area of North Wales with by far the highest number of confirmed cases at 1,390, while Denbighshire has 817, Conwy 729, Gwynedd 607 and Anglesey 465.

There were no new coronavirus related deaths in North Wales, nor across Wales as a whole.

To date, 294,928 people in Wales have been tested for coronavirus - with 17,620 having come back as positive.

Dr Robin Howe, incident director for the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak response at Public Health Wales, said: “From August 22, providing conditions remain stable, up to four households will be able to join together to form a single extended household, and a meal following a wedding, civil partnership or funeral will be allowed for up to 30 people indoors providing social distancing can be maintained.

“We welcome the amendments to regulations making it obligatory for hospitality businesses and other settings to collect contact details of customers from next week. This information is essential for Wales’ Test, Trace, Protect strategy for testing the general public and preventing the spread of coronavirus.
