A MAN was airlifted to hospital after a farm barn roof caught fire near Corwen.

North Wales Fire and Rescue Service and the Welsh Ambulance Service were called to the incident in Bryn Saith Marchog at about 3pm on Tuesday, September 8.

Five fire crews, an emergency ambulance and Wales Air Ambulance helicopter attended.

The man, aged in his 40s, was taken by air to Whitson Hospital on Merseyside.

A Welsh Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called on Tuesday, September 8 at approximately 2.51pm to reports of an injured person in the Corwen area following a fire.

"We responded with one emergency ambulance and the Wales Air Ambulance. One patient was taken to Whiston Hospital by air for further treatment."

Firefighters used two hose reels to put out the blaze just before 8pm.

The fire service said it launched an investigation into the incident.

"We were called to an agricultural barn fire in Bryn Saith Marchog, Corwen at 2.54pm on Thursday, September 8," the fire service spokesperson said.

"The fire affected the roof of the barn. Five appliances attended and used two hose reel jets.

"One casualty, a man in his 40s, was taken to hospital via air ambulance. He is believed to be quite poorly.

"The fire was stopped at 7.51pm."
