A CORWEN man died in a freak paragliding accident in Spain, an inquest heard.
Darren Kevin Watson, 46, of Westbourne Terrace, Corwen, died when a "current of air" blew him into the side of a mountain in the Murcia region of Spain on October 10, 2019.
An inquest held in Ruthin on Wednesday (September 23) into Mr Watson's death heard that he was on a two-week paragliding course on Sierra Del Buey mountain in the Jumilla area of Murcia when the incident occurred.
The court heard that while Mr Watson, a Stockport-born self-employed tax consultant, was coming into land, a "current of air" swept him into the mountainside, causing several "unsurvivable injuries" and, despite the best efforts of local emergency services, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Mr Watson, who was said to be "happily married" to husband Mark Ashton, suffered multiple trauma, a subsequent post-mortem examination into his death found.
Recording a conclusion of accidental death, John Gittins, senior coroner for North Wales East and Central, determined Mr Watson's death to have been caused by 1A multiple trauma.
