CPD Y Rhyl 1879 have made two more additions to their squad ahead of their inaugural season, whenever that gets underway.

The NWCFA Tier 4 (East) Premier Division side are looking to make their presence felt in no uncertain terms when competitive action is permitted to resume by the Football Association of Wales, with manager Gareth Thomas putting together a squad that is more than capable of challenging for honours.

His latest acquisitions include Hayden Hughes, a gifted young forward when came through the ranks at the wound-up Rhyl FC Academy and the youth system at Connah’s Quay Nomads.

Hughes has also gained senior football experience with Saltney Town and he is no stranger to Thomas, having worked with the boss for a brief period at Denbigh Town.

Another notable arrival to Belle Vue is Tom Cain, a versatile player who can play either in midfielder or as an attacker.

He progressed through the Academy system at Airbus UK Broughton and turned out for AFC Liverpool during the previous campaign.

Both players may not be able to train with their teammates due to the local lockdown restrictions, which has thrown another spanner into the preparations of clubs across the country during a situation that has put the potential season start date in significant doubt.

The club could be without the services of striker Jay Whitehouse for some time after their summer signing from Rhuddlan Town found out the full extent of the injury suffered during a recent training session.

The prolific striker ruptured his ACL, suffered tears to his LCL and meniscus, in addition to a small fracture to the player’s tibia, which is going to need extensive rehabilitation in the coming months.
