A COUNCIL has said more than 100 children and staff at Denbigh schools have been told to self-isolate following positive tests for coronavirus.

Denbighshire County Council said that 57 pupils in year seven at St Brigid's School and 37 nursery and reception pupils at Ysgol Pendref will have to follow social-isolation restrictions.

One staff member at St Brigid's and six staff at Ysgol Pendref have also been told to self-isolate.

The council said both schools will remain open and are working alongside Public Health Wales and NHS Test and Trace to prevent further cases.

"Denbighshire County Council has confirmed that 57 year seven pupils and one staff member from St Brigid’s School, will be required to self-isolate until Thursday, October 22 following a confirmed Covid 19 case associated with the school," a council spokesperson said.

"Meanwhile, 37 nursery and reception and six staff at Ysgol Pendref, Denbigh will be required to self-isolate until Friday, October 23, following a confirmed Covid 19 case associated with the school.

"All parents and guardians have been informed and both the Local Authority and the schools have consulted with Public Health Wales.

"The schools remain open and the Council is working closely with the schools affected, Public Health Wales as well as NHS Wales Test, Trace and Protect to ensure appropriate measures are in place to protect pupils, staff and the wider community."
