AN MP is encouraging residents living in the Vale of Clwyd to sign up for Covid-19 vaccine clinical trials.

About 270,000 people across the UK have signed up to participate in the vital vaccine studies, however thousands more are needed.

Dr James Davies, MP for Vale of Clwyd, said: “Finding a vaccine for this awful virus is paramount and whilst it is fantastic that 270,000 people across the UK have already signed up for these clinical trials, more volunteers are desperately needed.

“People from Black, Asian and minority ethnic backgrounds and vulnerable groups, such as those with chronic diseases and over 65s, are under-represented in trials currently taking place, and researchers are therefore calling for people from these groups to come forward. .

“I encourage people across the Vale of Clwyd, particularly those in the under-represented groups, to sign up and play a vital role in helping the NHS in the fight against coronavirus and ensuring potential candidates work for everyone.”

Dr Davies said he had registered to take part in the trials.

He added: “Registering gives permission for researchers to contact volunteers if they think they are a good fit.

“Once volunteers sign up, they can withdraw at any time.”
