A FUNDRAISING drive to raise £50,000 has been launched to help bring light and water back to Gwrych Castle.

The 200-year-old castle, which is hosting I’m A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here! In November, has so far raised more than £200 through its gofundme page.

A spokesperson for Gwrych Castle said: “The welcomed addition of I’m A Celebrity has helped to carry out urgent works however, they will be using generators and water tanks so for the castle to move forward long term we need to connect to main supplies once again.”

It has been reported in the national media that ITV spent £1 million to secure the use of the Grade I listed castle.

However, Gwrych Castle posted on their Facebook on October 27: "I'm a Celebrity have not installed electric or water.

"Their fee is no way near £1million that has been reported in the press."

The statement added: "We need your help to enable us to finally blow out the candles and bring light back to Gwrych Castle for the first time since the 1980s. The total project cost for Phase One of the repair of the castle will be around £10million.

"Be part of history by supporting Britain's biggest castle rescue.

"Though services do not immediately sound romantic, this is a major step to bring the castle back to life once again."

Abergele's Gwrych Castle has recently been chosen to benefit from the Co-op Local Community Fund.

The spokesperson added: "At a time when funds for community groups and charitable organisations are becoming more difficult to access, we’re incredibly grateful for this opportunity to make a real difference to the tourism industry in North Wales.

"Our vision is to secure a vibrant and sustainable future for Gwrych Castle and the built structures within its designed landscape, making them appealing, accessible and inspiring places for new and existing audiences to visit, support and enjoy, now and for years to come."

I'm A Celeb is due to start in November.

A third trailer - teasing the arrival of the show - was released this week.
