DOZENS at Denbighshire schools are currently being told to self-isolate, the local authority has confirmed.

Denbighshire Council has confirmed that pupils and staff across two sites in the county will need to isolate until mid-December after confirmed coronavirus cases were linked to the school.

A spokesman said: “A total of 44 pupils and four staff members at Ysgol Carrog will be required to self-isolate until December 15 (Foundation Phase) and December 17 (Key Stage 2 pupils), following a confirmed COVID-19 case associated with the school.

“The school has worked closely with Public Health Wales, the Local Authority and NHS Wales Test, Trace and Protect to ensure that all the appropriate measures are in place to protect students, staff and the wider community.”

Also, a total of 104 pupils and one member of staff at Ysgol Glan Clwyd, St Asaph, will be required to self-isolate until December 16 following a confirmed case of the virus associated with the school.

Meanwhile, the entire cohort of Year 7 pupils at Ysgol Brynhyfryd, in Ruthin, will be required to self-isolate until December 14.

Finally, a total of 30 pupils and three members of staff at Ysgol Emmanuel, in Rhyl, will be required to self-isolate until December 16.

A council spokesman adds: “The schools remain open and are working closely with Public Health Wales, the Local Authority and NHS Wales Test, Trace and Protect to ensure that all the appropriate measures are in place to protect students, staff and the wider community.”

Parents/guardians have been advised to remain alert for the main symptoms of coronavirus:

• A new or continuous cough

• A high temperature

• A loss of or change to sense of smell or taste

Those advised to self-isolated should book a coronavirus test if they develop any of these symptoms, even if they are mild.
