A POLICE chief praised communities for showing “kindness and compassion” throughout the year in his Christmas message.

Carl Foulkes, chief constable for North Wales Police, said that while the festive period will be different for many people it is important that Covid-19 rules are followed to support the emergency services and keep people safe.

“This has been a year like no other,” he said. “A year none of us will ever forget for a whole host of reasons. I recognise it has been extremely challenging and I’ve been so proud of our communities across North Wales for their kindness and concern for others.

“It’s not over yet and that’s why it’s really important that we continue to do the right thing, encourage others to do the same, and look out for each other, whilst adhering to guidance and regulations.

“It’s going to be a different Christmas for everyone this year, but I hope you get to enjoy it.

“The Christmas period is no different to any other day as far as we are concerned. We will still be out there and there will be families at home waiting for those emergency service workers to come home safely.

“I would particularly like to thank my officers, PCSOs staff and our many volunteers for all their hard work, not just at Christmas but throughout this year. I am truly grateful to them for all they tirelessly do, day after day, very often in challenging circumstances, but always with the aim of making North Wales the safest place in the UK.

“Here’s to a lovely Christmas, let’s do all we can to keep each other safe and well.

“Happy Christmas, Nadolig Llawen.”
