POLICE in North Wales say ignorance is no excuse after stopping a group of people who had driven from London to Snowdonia.

The car was stopped by the North Wales Police Intercept Team on Saturday afternoon.

The team tweeted: "Unfortunately Snowdonia National Park is still closed to visitors from afar, Wales is still under level 4 restrictions.

"This means if you drive from London to Snowdon like these people did this afternoon you will be fined.

"Ignorance isn’t a defence, the rules have been spread far and wide but yet people still choose to put others at risk. Snowdonia will still be here after we beat the virus."

Also at the weekend, Gwent Police issued more than 20 tickets for coronavirus breaches in the Caerphilly area.

The tickets all related to two house parties in the area on Saturday.

Gwent Polie tweeted: "In a space of three hours over twenty COVID tickets were issued at two house parties in Bargoed and Rhymney yesterday evening."
