WELSH Government Ministers have announced over £21.5m to help councils across the country fix flood damage to roads, bridges and boardwalks.

The investment was announced today [Tuesday] by Housing and Local Government Minister Julie James and Finance Minister, Rebecca Evans.

Projects being funded include one for Wrexham County Borough Council which will receive £40,000 for wall, fence and footpath repairs in the Llangollen Rural Community Council area.

Ms James said: “One year on from Storm Dennis, councils are continuing to repair the serious flood damage to roads, bridges, pavements and walls sustained in many parts of Wales.

“After our initial emergency response, we have been supporting them to carry out this ongoing repair work, which included work that needed to be done before the start of this winter to prevent further damage. I am pleased to see this funding is making a difference in communities across Wales.”

Rebecca Evans added: “Communities in Wales were devastated by the damage caused by last year’s storms, and the Welsh Government is continuing to support local authorities with their ongoing recovery and repair work.”

Cllr David A Bithell, Wrexhm Council's lead member for environment and transport, says: “This money will help towards the cost of wall, fence and footpath repairs in the Froncysyllte, Garth and Trevor community council area, and we look forward to continued support for flood repairs in the county borough in the future.

“These particular funds relate to the damage caused by Storm Dennis last year, but obviously the recent flooding caused by Storm Christoph last month has caused further significant issues across the county borough which may make the work more difficult. However, we’ll endeavour to complete these projects as quickly as possible, and we’re grateful to Welsh Government for this funding.”
