A FOOTBALL club has been "ransacked" by thieves who damaged property and stole charity boxes.

North Wales Police said it is investigating the incident at Prestatyn Town FC ground Bastion Gardens following a break-in on Wednesday night.

"We are saddened and sorry to announce that last night our clubhouse was broken into with items such as alcohol and charity boxes containing money being stolen," the club said in a Facebook post.

"There has also been some damage inside the clubhouse too."

Police said the suspects also attempted to break into a key safe.

An appeal has been made to witnesses or anyone with information related to the incident.

"Prestatyn football club was broken into sometime overnight and the clubhouse was ransacked," police said via the Community Safety Central Facebook page.

"The suspects attempted to get into the key safe but were not successful.

"If anybody has any information that could assist please get in touch on 101 or via NWP website chat quoting reference number Z022933."
