TWO men have been arrested after a disturbance in Rhyl led to alleged assaults on police officers.

North Wales Police said it was called to reports of two men fighting on Vale Road at 1.05am on Friday.

It is understood that three officers who attended the incident were then assaulted during attacks which included a headbutt, kick to the head and spitting.

A 32-year-old man was subsequently arrested on suspicion of wounding, while another 32-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of a breach of the peace and assaulting emergency workers.

Chief constable Carl Foulkes tweeted on Friday morning: "Headbutted, kicked in the head and spat at, nobody should have to go to work to face this kind of behaviour but three of my officers did last night, fortunately they are all OK and being supported.

"I believe we should all support our emergency services in these difficult times."

A North Wales Police spokesperson said: "We were called to a public order incident in Vale Road Rhyl at 1.05 am today following  reports of two men fighting.

"A 32-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of wounding while another 32-old-man has been arrested  for breach of the peace and assaulting emergency workers."
