CARE HOMES across Denbighshire are set to enjoy the power of music thanks to donations made to them by a Denbigh-based group.

The Dementia Friendly Denbigh (DFD) team have recently been delivering Alexa/Amazon Echo Dot speaker devices to local residential and care providers supporting those living with dementia.

The homes and organisations in Denbigh which received a free Amazon Echo Dot as a result of this were Dolwen, Llys Meddyg, Plas Eleri and Vale View in Denbigh.

Others to have received a device were Park Lodge in Trefnant and Llanrhaeadr Hall along with day-care at Waen Chapel, St. Asaph.

A spokesperson for DFD said: "Funding for this was available after our secretary, Rebecca Bowcott, ran the Virtual London Marathon in October 2020 raising a substantial sum of £1,140 in sponsorship for DFD.

"All the homes and care-providers have expressed their appreciation of the Echo Dots and we hope their residents and clients have hours of pleasure and enjoyment both listening to music and the interesting facts and information provided by their new devices.

"The power of music, especially singing, to unlock memories and kickstart the grey-matter is an increasingly key feature of dementia care. It seems to reach parts of the damaged brain in ways other forms of communication cannot.

"Thank you to our committee members who have been delivering these devices to the homes."

The spokesperson added that feedback from those who have received their devices has been 'lovely'.
