HOLLYWOOD star Rebel Wilson is in Wrexham today as shooting of a new film moves to North Wales.

Rebel, star of the Pitch Perfect trilogy, is one of the stars of The Almond and the Seahorse which began filming in Liverpool this month.

She will star alongside Charlotte Gainsbourg, Alice Lowe and Meera Syal.

The film is being produced by Mad as Birds, an independent film and television production company based in Wirral and North Wales.

The plot, based on the play by Kaite O’Reilly, sees an archaeologist and an architect fight to re-imagine a future after traumatic brain injury leaves them adrift from the people they love.

Filming is centred around flats in Tuttle Street where Wilson has been spotted.

On its social media, Wrexham Council said there will be fewer spaces than usual on St Giles car park on April 7, 8 and 9 due to vehicles associated with the film crew parking overnight. You can find a full list of car parks on our website.

Co-writer and director Celyn Jones said on Instagram: "And we’re off. Day 1, take 1. This is going to be a journey. Thank you all for helping make it happen . Let’s make a great film."

Wilson also posted an image of the script on her Instragram.

“The Almond And The Seahorse will be a journey into the lives of two couples whose lives become irreversibly altered through simple twists of fate,” said co-director Tom Stern earlier this year.

“We will join them in their search for new relevance in this new reality, a search that is both tragic and comedic as their worlds turn upside down. The film will be directed jointly; bridging image, drama and performance into a poignant tale of humans striving for meaning and love.”

“Making The Almond And The Seahorse will be an honour,” added the Mad As Birds team.

“It’s a real credit to Kaite O’Reilly’s brilliant source material that the screenplay turned out so well and attracted a stunning, world class cast. We can’t wait to tell this remarkable story together, a moving and humorous story that needs to be told.

Australian Rebel Wilson is best known for her comedic roles in films like Bridesmaids, Isn't it Romantic, and Jojo Rabbit. This will be her first dramatic role.

The 41-year-old posted a video of herself "naked sunbathing" in London on Twitter last week and was spotted in Liverpool filming scenes for The Almond and the Seahorse.

Wrexham will also be the setting of another film shoot this year. A League Apart is a British romantic comedy, also from Mad As Birds, centred around the town's football club and starring Gerard Butler.
