RUTHIN Town Football Club officials have confirmed that they have been successful in securing the funding needed to progress with the installation of floodlights at the club.

As a result, floodlights are set to be installed at both the first team pitch at Memorial Park Fields and the adjacent training pitch.

Officials have been working hard behind the scenes for many months in order to complete a series of applications to help fund the project.

Club Chairman Andy Edwards commented “With a combined project value of £186,000 we are extremely thankful to our partners who have helped us over the line. Our project plan has been achieved with great help from Sport Wales, The Brenig Wind Farm & Clocaenog Wind Farm.

"I am also very grateful for our combined work with Eryl Roberts from our club sponsor Jones Bros and local electrician Chris Williams who will be supporting us with the developments."

This is the beginning of the next phase of Ruthin Town’s vision to continually improve its facilities - something that is becoming more and more of a requirement for clubs to be able play at a high level in Wales.

The club itself, who play in the JD Cymru North (tier two) has a long history in Welsh Football going back to 1880 and have competed mainly within Tier 2 of the Welsh pyramid.

It has also helped developed some of the finest footballers to come from the Denbighshire region in recent times.

Club officials say that the floodlights will allow Ruthin Town the opportunity to fulfil scheduled matches like never before.

In years gone by, the club has always condensed away fixtures at the beginning and end of each season due to the cross over with Ruthin Town Cricket Club.

But, the new floodlights will mean they can play midweek and evening matches - something they hope, in turn, can garner even more support for the club too.

Officials say that, as well as this, the floodlights will also give the club greater time during the darker hours to encourage football for girls, ladies and other groups wishing to develop their skills.

The club hopes the lights will be put into place by the end of summer, ready for the 2021/22 campaign.
