POLICE are urging people to leave unwanted knives in amnesty bins at police stations as part of a week-long campaign.

North Wales Police is taking part in Operation Sceptre, an annual national week of action that aims to raise awareness of the dangers of knife crime and reduce it by targeting those carrying weapons.

It will see special knife amnesty bins located at police station front counters in Rhyl, Colwyn Bay, Llandudno, Bangor, Holyhead, Mold and Wrexham.

Police tweeted: "This week we are supporting #OpSceptre - a national campaign tackling knife crime. Let's help make our streets safer, together.

"Got info about knife crime or people who carry them? Let us know by calling 101 or reporting via our website."

Officers have previously visited retail stores to check that staff follow the legal requirement of the Challenge 25 ID approach when selling knives, while School Community Police Officers have delivered educational workshops on the dangers of County Lines to prevent the exploitation of young people.
